Good morning, MISINFORMATION ABOUNDS As I have written before, we are living through a pandemic of misinformation. Contrary to pre-internet times when one crazy announcement or another had a relatively short life, the proverbial “flash in the pan,” today it’s different. Information, regardless of source or credibility, is distributed and republished in minutes. It is not vetted in public, analyzed by journalists and scholars before it is posted and reposted. And even if the post is demonstrated to be false, perhaps even removed from the platform, the damage already is done. Further, the statements that are made often are anonymous. Those who post disinformation are not accountable, often not even identifiable. No one takes responsibility. Truth is secondary to titillation value.
