Musings Beyond the Bunker--To Err is Human
Friends,
ERRATA
Sorry to crowd your mailbox, but this morning’s error really takes the case. Over 1243 Musings, I’ve counted less than ten boneheaded mistakes (mostly involving a wrong first name or reference to the wrong musician). This morning, though, has the most egregious, and obviously, wrong reference. Thank you, Mark Schwartz, for getting up early to point it out!
When, toward the end of the Musing, I provided my list of what I would have wanted to state as its war aims, one of them was:
“(c) pacification and rebuilding of Hamas.”
Egads! Of course I meant “pacification and rebuilding of Gaza.” And while there no doubt are those who think one need not address the rebuilding of a vanquished enemy, there are a number of precedents. Look no further than the Marshall Plan after the Second World War. In this instance, the justification is even greater, as Israel occupied and then blockaded Gaza (along with Egypt). Any hope of creating a stable society in Gaza depends upon Israel, along with the U.S., the EU, and the neighboring Arab governments, to rebuild critical infrastructure and establish the basis for a functioning democratic state. Israel didn’t start the war, but perhaps can it can help build a lasting peace.
Have a good day,
Glenn
