#206 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Friday November 26)
Good morning!
I trust everyone had a good Thanksgiving and will be enjoying leftovers over the long weekend. A short Musing today, as we consume leftovers…
THOSE WERE THE DAYS…
This showed up in my Facebook feed as a memory—something I posted in October 2012. How naïve I was then and how more innocent we all were:
“Regardless of one's opinion on the choice of candidate, we should be proud of our system and our country. The fact we can have a civil (well, nearly) debate between two smart leaders that will lead to a peaceful transition (or continuation) of power is a tribute to our system.”
In 2012 we were deciding between Mitt Romney, a man who built a business, saved the Salt Lake City Olympics, and governed a blue state as a Republican (while instituting the proto-Obama Care health care plan in Massachusetts) and reelecting Barack Obama, the first person of color to hold the nation’s highest office, someone who ran on the principle of “Hope.” Either was a mainstream choice, possessing strong moral compasses and a shared belief in the American experiment. Both had principles and ideas.
