#879 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Friday March 15)
Good morning,
A little Music and Poetry today to start off the weekend, including a Robert Frost classic…
MUSIC—MORE COVER VERSIONS (Part 3)
“Without You,” Harry Nilsson (originally Badfinger). One of my favorite under-appreciated musicians
“Me and Bobby McGee,” Janis Joplin (originally Roger Miller). So great it seems like an original…
“Proud Mary,” Ike and Tina Turner (originally Creedence Clearwater Revival). Listen to how it starts quietly and picks up pace with the one-and-only Tina. Nearly as good as the CCR original. Proud Mary / Tina Turner
“All Along the Watchtower,” Jimi Hendrix (originally Bob Dylan, in a more folksy, quiet version!):
POETRY
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
NEXT WEEK
The weekend: I’m going to be judging a Moot Court competition at UCLA Law School tomorrow. While I’ve judged many debate rounds, this will be my first Moot Court. The homework was more than I bargained for, starting with a 36 page bench brief. This is not unlike agreeing to a speaking engagement six months ahead and questioning why one said yes as the date approaches! I hope I don’t let the kids down.
The coming week: Musings coming up next week on Supreme Court Ethics, the arrival of Spring, Short Reads, and some thoughts on science and facts.
Have a great weekend,
Glenn
