Good morning!
“Quickie Tuesday” time…
I’ve been thinking a lot about interesting and unfortunate names I’ve come across. There is the odd “Doctor Lawyer,” who apparently practiced in Orange County, and my grandmother’s family name, “Schmucklerovsky.” But they get worse, including the kid in my Hebrew School class named “Dick Weiner.” Really, mom and dad? That was a good idea? And of course there is my female cousin with the unfortunate last name, “Slutsky.”
Do you have any other unfortunate names to share?
THE SHAMELESS PARADE CONTINUES
The Seattle Sun Times reports that a Washington legislator critical of COVID vaccine mandates wore a yellow star, proclaiming in a speech, “in this context, we are all Jews.” Really? Comparison of trying to stay safe to the holocaust? The shameful behaviors just don’t end.
Then there is Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who fancies himself a presidential contender in 2024, signing Florida HB 223, requiring that professors at colleges register their political affiliation. It is allegedly to gauge “the extent to which competing ideas and perspectives are presented.” How exactly will this be done? Balancing hiring? Reviewing syllabi? Restricting speech?
Have a good day,
Glenn
