Good morning,
Today I’m taking a break from the news, the courts, and politics to just relax into the weekend.
There’s nothing quite as wonderful to me as a great cover of a great song. Here are some of my favorites, some of which exceeded the original in popularity. I have a few more that I’ll save for another Musing. In the meantime, nothing else today but music!
Big Yellow Taxi, Counting Crows (originally Carly Simon)
Red, Red Wine, UB 40 (originally Neil Diamond)
Here Comes the Sun, Nina Simone (originally The Beatles)
Hallelujah, Jeff Buckley (originally Leonard Cohen)
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Devo (originally the Rolling Stones)…okay, so it’s more bizarre than melodic or entertaining. Still…
Peace, Love and Understanding, Elvis Costello (originally Nick Lowe)
Have a great day,
Glenn
Larry, You are so right and I am humbled. Yours is the fifth person this morning to point out this error (and the day is young!). I'd note that I was (and still am) a big fan of both! It was a golden age of remarkable female chanteuses. Add Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, and Carole King (and I'm just getting started).
And yes, for you sticklers out there, I acknowledge the error in qualifying "chanteuses" with the word "female..."
