#808 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Friday December 1)
Good morning,
ANOTHER SPIN ON THE DEMISE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
From Harvey Englander, another spin:
In my humble opinion, the origin of the divide between the two major political parties began with Ronald Reagan declaring that government is the enemy. To paraphrase his statement, it is that the most chilling words anyone could hear is ‘I’m from the government, I’m here to help.’
The political parties used to have the same goal, make government work better, but they had different approaches and that was fine.
Today, the Republicans don’t want government to work at all and the Democrats want government to manage everything. Except of course, for Republicans, [government is just fine] when governments want to control a woman’s body or the books that children read (whatever happened to Republican belief that parents should decide what their children read, and not the schools).
A prominent Republican friend of mine, who was the Chairman of the US Navy League, surprised me when he told me in the 1980’s that he was pro-choice because if he didn’t want government in the boardroom, why would he want it in the bedroom.
And of course, Barry Goldwater proclaiming about soldiers, ‘I don’t care if he is straight as long as he can shoot straight.’
It’s distressing to see where we have come.”
POETRY
Logic, from Stray Birds
By Rabindranath Tagore
A mind all logic is like a knife all blade.
It makes the hand bleed that uses it.

And because some people asked, here is one of Aunt Seemah’s favorite songs, “Everybody Loves Saturday Night,” by the Tarriers: https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0TCozrSzPKjA2YPSSSy1LLapMyk-pVMjJL0stVihOLCktSkmsVMjLTM8oAQB7uhDL&q=everybody+loves+saturday+night&oq=every+loves+saturday+night&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCQgBEC4YDRiABDIGCAAQRRg5MgkIARAuGA0YgAQyCQgCEAAYDRiABDIJCAMQABgNGIAEMgkIBBAuGA0YgAQyCQgFEAAYDRiABDIJCAYQABgNGIAEMgkIBxAAGA0YgAQyCQgIEAAYDRiABNIBCDU4OThqMGo0qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:a89f5efb,vid:dUT_PFsFqho,st:0
And The Serendipity Singers:
These guys remind me of A Mighty Wind, the great Christopher Guest mocumentary of a folk ensemble from the 60s!
Have a great day,
