#757 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Friday September 22)
Good morning,
POETRY
Today, some poetry provided by Adam Torson:
Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prisoned birds must find in freedom,
Winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark-green fields; on – on – and out of sight.
Everyone’s voice was suddenly lifted;
And beauty came like the setting sun;
My heart was shaken with tears; and horror
Drifted away … O, but Everyone
Was a bird; and the song was wordless; the singing will never be done.
--Siegfried Sassoon, Everyone Sang
MUSIC
I think of how our children’s generation is enamored with the music of our youth—the great rock and ballads of the 60s, 70s and 80s. It got me thinking about our familiarity with the music of our parents’ generation—a reminder from the recent death of Tony Bennett. Here are a few of the best. First, Frank Sinatra and “You Make Me Feel So Young”:
And here’s Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga, with “Night and Day”:
And Dean Martin, “That’s Amore”:
Have a great weekend,
