#710 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Thursday July 20)
Good morning,
Sorry. I inadvertently had this scheduled for PM, vs. AM!
A potpourri…
BASEBALL
Starting with some baseball:
“Baseball is a mental game. You can’t think and hit at the same time.” –Yogi Berra
In 1963, San Francisco Giants pitcher Gaylord Perry famously declared, "They'll put a man on the moon before I hit a home run."
On July 20, 1969, just 20 minutes after Neil Armstrong became the first human being ever to walk on the moon, Perry hit the first, and only, home run of his career.

STYLES CHANGE (AND SO DO WE)
I’ve pretty much retired my leather soled shoes. Between back pain and an annoying bunion, the pounding of hard surfaces just doesn’t work any more. Most of the time, it’s various “dressy” sneakers or other comfortable shoes with forgiving soles. I still have a couple of pairs of “old fashioned leather soled shoes” for the occasional dressy evening. This is a far cry from the shoes of my lawyering days. The days of wingtips, cordovan leather, and the occasional saddle shoes (what was I thinking with those?!) are in the rear-view mirror.
But beyond the rigid shoes, the fantastic style choices that have fallen into the recesses of history (but may yet rise again as a “retro” style) include:
· Flare bottomed pants
· White pants
· Large collared shirts
· Ultra-wide lapeled suits
· Puka shells
· Tie dye
· Sideburns evocative of Civil War facial hair
· 70s “porn star moustaches”
· Platform shoes
· Leisure suits
· Men’s hair down to mid-back
· Shirts unbuttoned more than two buttons
They belong in the “dust bin of history.” The pictures that remain are fantastic!
I think the facial hair is making a comeback. Trust me, all you guys jumping in on this trend, you may regret those pictures 20 years from now!
Have a great day,
Glenn
