#665 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday May 20)
Good morning,
MUSIC
After songs a few weeks ago about love for men who might not be so great, here are a few favorites saying “enough is enough” and moving on from a bad relationship.
“You’re So Vain” (the classic “telling him how it is” song—I love it), Carly Simon:
“Flowers,” Myley Cyrus (love this modern take on a woman being better off without the guy):
“Break Up With Him,” Old Dominion:
“I Will Survive,” Gloria Gaynor (who doesn’t remember the piano intro?!):
And here’s one after the breakup: “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” Al Green (a soulful cover of the Bee Gees classic—guys can break up too):
POETRY
Awakening in New York
By Maya Angelou
Curtains forcing their will
against the wind,
children sleep,
exchanging dreams with
seraphim. The city
drags itself awake on
subway straps; and
I, an alarm, awake as a
rumor of war,
lie stretching into dawn,
unasked and unheeded.
Who Has Seen the Wind?
By Christina Rosetti
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.
Have a great day,
Glenn
