#659 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday May 13)
Good morning,
Tomorrow is Mothers Day. As I think of what my mother, I think about my good fortune for having such a mother—like many of you.
I think the essence of parenting is taking a life that is so totally dependent upon us when born and slowly, in increments, great and tiny, helping them become independent. Isn’t that the measure of success for a mother—that her children become independent adults?
I was introduced to the group Distant Cousins. I love this folk-y pop group and suspect you might too. These two songs (and their titles), “Are You Ready” and “On My Way” fit nicely into the notion of growth and being ready for what lies ahead.
MUSIC
Distant Cousins can be heard on a lot of TV shows, including in The Reign, with “Are You Ready”:
And here is “On My Way”:
POETRY
The words of “Are You Ready” speak to being, well, ready to go off on one’s own:
Today I take my own advice and make the most of it
Too many times my choices have been guided by my fears
Into the dark and unknown water I will sink or swim
Like a blade of grass reaching for the sun
I'm ready to begin
I keep on climbing
Oh, against the wind
Tonight the sky is calling
Are you ready?
Are you ready?
To fly on your own
The streets below
Are cold and crowded
I asked my way around
The loudest truth I ever heard
Was the softest sound
When you whisper in my ear the first time I could see, I was looking everywhere you're right, you're next to me
I keep on climbing, up against the wind
Tonight the sky is calling are you ready
Are you ready
To fly on your own?
Today I take my own advice and make the most of it.
Have a great day,
Glenn
PS: Remember that Friday and Saturday Musings are being merged after this month. After this week, don’t look for a separate Saturday Musing. Five days a week is plenty!
