#641 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday April 22)
Good morning,
SONGS ABOUT MEN WHO PERHAPS ARE NOT THE BEST CHOICES
Some of the best songs are written about a love that probably shouldn’t be, given the objective facts, but which are the result of (perhaps misplaced) love against the odds.
This is a song from Funny Girl, most associated with the great Barbra Streisand. Here’s a version of “My Man,” sung by the current star, Lea Michele
This is a great rendition of “Something Wonderful,” from The King and I. As one can recall, the King was a tyrant but constantly trying to improve himself. This is his “number one wife,” explaining that, despite his shortcomings, he can do “something wonderful.” This is the link to an interesting version sung by Carly Simon Carly Simon / Something Wonderful
“Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man” Here’s the link from Showboat Can't Held Lovin That Man
And for a modern take on girls loving bad boys, here’s Zara Larsson and “Bad Boys”
POETRY
To Bless the Space Between Us
By John O’Donahue
This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.
Have a great weekend,
Glenn
