#5 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Thursday April 22)
Good morning,
Happy Earth Day!
It is hard to imagine that this is the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day. In junior high school, I was something of an environmental activist, organizing our school’s commemoration of the first Earth Day. Back then, we were well aware of the damage being done to the environment. Here we are, fully two generations later, and we still have deniers that there is climate change.
QUOTATION OF THE DAY
More often than not, any writing’s persuasive value is inversely proportional to its use of hyperbole and invective.
--Judge Kevin Newson, Reiyn Keohane v. Florida Department of Corrections Secretary
FEWER ADVERBS AND ADJECTIVES
This goes along with my general advice to writers (particularly in business but I think it also pertains to most work). Reduce the frequency of adverbs and adjectives. Let the nouns and verbs (and the data) speak for themselves.
Have a great day,
Glenn
