#48 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Friday June 4)
Good morning!
THIS SHOULD SCARE US ALL
QAnon is a cancer and it’s growing. According to a New York Times article, the Public Religion Research Institute recently published a poll finding that 15% of all American believe that “the levers of power are controlled by a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles, a core believe of QAnon suppporters.”
The same 15% believe that “American patriots may have to resort to violence” to restore the country’s rightful order.
Only one in five Republicans fully reject QAnon conspiracy theories. Another 55% “mostly disagreed,” which means they are not sure. Not sure? Oh my.
The article goes on to say that if QAnon were a religion, it would be as big as all white evangelical Protestants.
ISRAEL HAS BECOME THE VICTIM OF BUMPER STICKER PHILOSOPHY

REPUBLICANS AGAINST AN INQUIRY
In the meantime, Republicans used the filibuster to oppose a congressional inquiry into the January 6th insurrection. You know why? Because it is politically expedient. They choose politics over preservation of the Republic, identifying perpetrators of this heinous crime, and determining the contributing factors to the riot. They choose politics over preventing this in the future (and I imagine a few don’t want their encouragement of the behavior of these “reasonable people” to be unearthed). They are not patriots.
SOLIDARITY OF THE CRACKPOTS AND THE DANGEROUS
In the meantime, the crackpot, Marjorie Taylor Green, of Georgia (she who equated mask mandates to the holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis) was holding a rally with Matt Gaetz, of Florida (who, while not yet indicted, certainly appears to have engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with minors). The party of Lincoln. What would he (or, for that matter, TR, Ike, or Reagan) think now…
FORGIVING PEOPLE WITH WHOM WE DISAGREE—AND ACCEPTING FACTS
He hates being quoted, but the following from Ben VandeBunt is brilliant, proving once again that perhaps he should be president:
“Nelson Mandela was able to forgive others who have the audacity to believe different things than him. Many Evangelicals forgive people who believe in the right to choose. We don’t have to agree on all things, but we do need to agree on basic facts and enough other things to constructively argue. it’s the only way a social contract can be upheld. I always liked Mandela’s line that revenge is a ‘poison we drink thinking it hurts our enemies.’”
Best wishes,
Glenn
