#36 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Sunday May 23)
Good morning,
I read a Facebook post of a friend, listing the places he most wants to go as we emerge from the pandemic and begin traveling again. I really enjoyed the idea of making such a list and the list itself:
(1) Key West (to see and feel where Hemingway wrote).
(2) Costa Rica (serene and full of natural wonders).
(3) Machu Pichu (because, of course).
(4) Buenos Aires (I have been told it is among the world's more beautiful cities).
(5) Split, Croatia (Dalmatian coast is featured in Shakespeare).
(6) Nizhny Novgorod (I would tell you why, but it might spoil a delightful novel).
(7) Varanasi (On the recommendation of a daughter).
(8) Bali (Because why not just soak in a beautiful, but different, kind of beach).
(9) Botswana (Sparse and based on what I have read, stunningly beautiful).
(10) Fez (To see the Medina).
(11) Perth (The most isolated large city in the world after Honolulu).
(12) Fiji (and not just for the water).
I like his list. I agree on Key West. One can sense Hemingway’s presence (also, one shouldn’t miss the Truman vacation White House while there). Costa Rica, Buenos Aires and Split are all fantastic. I think Botswana can be proxy for any number of African countries. I’d add to it:
Southeast Asia
Chile
Blackberry Farm
New Zealand
TODAY’S QUIZ
Name a movie or movies where a person’s name is shouted (an excited utterance?). There are three that come to mind that should come to your mind…
AND ONE MORE
We all know that Donald Trump seemed to spend more time at Mar-a-Lago than at the White House. Can you name the “winter white house” or “summer white house” of the presidents from Franklin Roosevelt to now?
Answer next week.
Have a great Sunday,
Glenn
