#357 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday May 21)
Good morning,
MUSIC
Of all the great music I’ve shared over the past over two years, none has elicited quite the response as novelty songs. Tim Watenpaugh reminds us that all of these songs were on the ubiquitous “Dr. Demento” show in the 70s. Here is a Doctor Demento favorite, entitled “Shaving Cream”:
Meanwhile, Brad Mindlin notes the Dickie Goodman mash-ups of popular songs of the time. Here are a few: Energy crisis, 1974:
Election, 1980:
Then there are the more twisted songs about pets, like “Dead Puppies”:
And that Barnes and Barnes classic, “Fish Heads”:
POETRY
No Man is An Island
By John Donne
No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
Have a great day,
Glenn
