#249 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday January 15)
Good morning!
MUSIC
Today I thought it fun to survey some of the best “bad guy” songs from musicals—both in the Disney canon and from Broadway. Note the classic Damn Yankees, with some prehistoric cinematography:
“Gaston” from Beauty and the Beast:
“Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid,
“Those Were the Good Old Days” from Damn Yankees, sung by the inimitable Ray Walston in the classic movie (remember My Favorite Martian?):
“Be Prepared” from The Lion King, sung by Jeremy Irons:
“My Name” from Oliver:
“Pretty Women” from Sweeney Todd (right as Judge Turpin gets his due…):
Sudden Light
By Dante Gabriel Rossetti
I have been here before,
But when or how I cannot tell:
I know the grass beyond the door,
The sweet keen smell,
The sighing sound, the lights around the shore.
You have been mine before,—
How long ago I may not know:
But just when at that swallow's soar
Your neck turn'd so,
Some veil did fall—I knew it all of yore.
Has this been thus before?
And shall not thus time's eddying flight
Still with our lives our love restore
In death's despite,
And day and night yield one delight once more?
Have a great day,
Glenn
