#201 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Saturday November 20)
Good morning and Happy Weekend!
FATHERHOOD SONGS
A few weeks ago, I shared some odes to fathers. Several people commented on how much these songs took them back to their childhood and their relationships with their fathers. Here are two additional recommendations.
Parke Skelton says the best is “My Old Man” by Steve Goodman:
Jeff Grant, showing the signs of his advanced years, suggests Eddie Fisher’s “Oh, My Papa”:
SONGS LAMENTING “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?”
These songs seem like first cousins:
Christina Peri, “Who Do You Think You Are?”:
Miranda Lambert, singing the Blake Shelton song about his brother who passed away, “Over You”:
That last one I really love.
POETRY
Risk
By Anais Nin
when the risk
to remain tight
in a bud
was more painful
than the risk
it took
to blossom.
Awakening In New York
By Maya Angelou
Curtains forcing their will
against the wind,
children sleep,
exchanging dreams with
seraphim. The city
drags itself awake on
subway straps; and
I, an alarm, awake as a
rumor of war
lie stretching into dawn
unasked and unheeded.
Have a great weekend,
Glenn
