#119 Musings Beyond the Bunker (Tuesday August 17)
Good morning!
Dear friends,
AN UNHAPPY READER WITH A CONTRARY VIEW
I have gotten a lot of response to the conversation about racial inequities in America and its acknowledgement in our educational institutions, including the study of Critical Race Theory. Much of it acknowledges that its study is one of many ways of considering history, thought not the only one. That said, now all agreed. In the interest of providing voice to an alternative view, here are the abridged comments of Jeff Polak:
“[A]ny honest discussion about racism and slavery within the United States needs to include the horrific role the Democratic Party has played on this stain in our great country. I know you are well aware of the role the Democratic Party played with slavery up until the Civil War and afterwards as it is well known that the Klan was the militant wing of the Democratic Party (“Respected” Democratic leader / Grand Wizard Klansmen, Robert Byrd). Implementing Critical Race Theory today is nothing more than an attempt to cover up history and an attempt for the Democratic Party to disassociate itself with its overt history of racism and slavery.
Furthermore, as I’ve mentioned repeatedly the pivot from the Democratic Party through Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” to implement polices many still currently in place and which are being expanded upon under current Democratic leadership further enslaves a larger segment of the populous to the government. Are you aware of Johnson’s quote, “These Mother F...ing N…s are going to vote for us for the next 200 years!” The leadership of the Democratic Party has one overreaching objective to gain more power. In order to achieve this objective, the Democrat Party depends on having and expanding a permanent underclass. Today, we watch the disastrous consequences particular within the black communities as a result of the implementation of the Democratic policies in our cities and schools. Rather than come to the realization that such policies have been so damaging for the people they are intended to help the policy makers deflect responsibility for the very problems they have created and blame today’s problems on police officers / systemic racism. I watch with astonishment and concern as to how so many Progressive / Elitist subscribe to the false narratives perpetuated by the DNC and it’s minions. Again I highly recommend you watch Larry Elder’s movie, UncleTom…”
A PARTIAL RESPONSE
Where to go from here? First, the entire discussion of the Democratic Party of the mid-19th century is completely irrelevant. The Republican Party also supported the Gold Standard in 1900 and much of the Republican Party were isolationists in the 1930s (only to become supporters of a more robust foreign policy later). Not sure what party positions over 100 years ago really mean today. So I’ll just skip that.
As for the racism of Lyndon Johnson, while important to understanding who he was, it’s not terribly relevant nor helpful in understanding his leadership or legacy today. I suppose we should also check in on Truman’s antisemitism, Jack Kennedy’s and Warren Harding’s womanizing, and the racism and antisemitism of Richard Nixon (I won’t even comment on the craven attacks of Joseph McCarthy during the 50s). While certainly not acceptable behaviors, these were flawed men, some of whom performed great service to our country. But I don’t think these inadequacies that are dispositive of what these people did. Some would say that only someone of Johnson’s southern racist background could have brought forth the Civil Rights initiatives he did at the time they were achieved.
I’ll leave it to the reader to decide whether the Democratic Party is consciously trying to create a permanent underclass. If that were the objective, it seems far more sophisticated, long term and nefarious than I would think the Democratic Party is capable of executing. Certainly whatever they allegedly are doing to “create” an underclass is being undermined by the Republicans’ excellent and accomplished effort to disenfranchise these same people.
I welcome Jeff and those who have such strongly held views for what can’t be done to propose ideas to help address the racial inequities and economic bifurcation we face.
QUARANTINE UPDATE
Greetings on the final day of my isolation. It turns out that after two home tests that proved negative and two separate PCR tests, both which also have turned out negative, I am “good to go.” Thank you to the many of you who sent good wishes. Needless to say, we’re pretty happy at the Sonnenberg compound!
I have learned that there are apparently a lot of asymptomatic vaccinated carriers out there who, unbeknownst to them, are infecting others. It really was random that I found out I was carrying it and could self-isolate to spare infecting further spread. Upon some investigation, I found that my experience is not atypical. It is thought that vaccinated folks can “cycle through” an infection in less than a week. Reason enough to consider getting vaccinated.
A FINAL COVID OBSERVATION
There seems to be a movement by women who are pregnant or who are contemplating pregnancy to not get vaccinated. They maintain that they can’t know the long term effects of the vaccine. I find this curious, since they don’t seem to be weighing the long-term effects that contracting COVID might have on their pregnancy. After all, we know COVID often has lasting effects. I’m dying to know what science these mothers-to-be are relying upon in deciding to submit themselves and their unborn children to the risk of this disease.
Best, Glenn
